The following are Breastfeeding Public Service Announcements from around the world. They greatly differ in style from one another, depending on the given culture's support of breastfeeding mothers vs. its level of lactiphobia. If you have another to share, let us know ~ we'd love to add more to the collection.

English narration from the above video:
If I told you a new formula has been released that increases your baby's defenses, would you give it to your baby?
If I told you we can have free nourishment for the first six months of your baby's life, would you believe me?
If I told you a company has patented packaging that keeps food ready 24hrs a day, keeping all its properties perfectly, would you buy it?
That formula exists.
That food exists.
That company exists.
Breastmilk is the best nourishment for your baby. It adapts to suit all your baby's needs, increasing his/her immune system. And besides, it is free!
Nothing like mom.
Nothing like breastfeeding.

ReplyDeleteThe PSA from Puerto Rico made me cry. Then I tried to click it to see it on YouTube, where it has been removed for being "inappropriate." That says so much about our society, it is sad :(
ReplyDeleteHere is another one! But I'm not sure which spanish speaking country it is from, as it doesn't say

I did some investigation and I think its from Spain! :)
ReplyDeleteThe American ads are so... indirect. You can really see the cultural differences in attitudes towards breasts and breastfeeding in these ads. (Even comparing the American to the Canadian...)
ReplyDeleteCool post! Got linked here from MDC! :)
awesome post!!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! Where did you find that adorable baby? Yours?
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely beautiful! Thank you so much for sharing these. I loved the ones from Puerto Rico and Bulgaria, although I winced at the twiddling ;)
ReplyDeleteBlacktating posted one from Texas. It's not youtube, so I don't know how you'd post it though. Ask her.

These are great. I only wish there were some images of black and Asian women in there.
ReplyDeleteHafidha - I agree. I'd love to add some if you know of any.
ReplyDeleteI will keep my eyes peeled!
ReplyDeleteHere is a YouTube clip of Buffy St Marie on Sesame St promoting breast feeding!

beautiful! just a note: the google ads attached to the video were mostly for formula!
ReplyDeleteWe need more commercials - we need them to inundate the airwaves and get people talking, like the anti-smoking commercials.

What a pretty pass we have come to, that anyone has to advertise for breastfeeding! What next - "Breathe fresh air, it oxygenates your blood!" "Drink clean water, your body needs it!" ?
