Everyone Else's Children Matter Too

"Each of us must come to care about everyone else's children. We must recognize that the welfare of our children is intimately linked to the welfare of all other people's children. After all, when one of our children needs life-saving surgery, someone else's child will perform it. If one of our children is harmed by violence, someone else's child will be responsible for the violent act. The good life for our own children can be secured only if a good life is also secured for all other people's children."

  1. Beautiful quote! I think this quote also explains how so many moms get into each other's 'business'about parenting choices and the like because they intuitively feel like mothering the next child as if it was their own.

  2. Beautiful quote. I used it in a post about why we should care about what happens to Habiba and Alma yesterday.

  4. Exactly why I chose to vaccinate my kiddos. Not only am I protecting them, and at the same time protecting the children around them. :-D

  5. Beautiful. And another reason to fully vaccinate. On schedule.

  6. Vaccines cause more harm than good. :-( I suggest contact Guggie Daly for lots of information that you are NOT told about vaccines. I haven't had vaccines since Kindergarten and I have only had the flu ONCE in my life (when I was 6 or 7). I've never had any bad illness and I've never been hospitalized, and the people I know who don't vaccinate their kids are happy they don't. Their kids are happy, they never get sick. Whereas if they had vaccines, they probably wouldn't be as healthy.

  7. I think bringing this beautiful quote down to a vaccine debate is pretty low. We can vaccinate the world, but if we don't help them with basic needs, i.e. improving their quality of life, we're not really helping.

  8. Let's not get into a debate over other mothers' choices ... surely part of being a parent to all, if not the most important part, is to have respect for opposing points of view and to inform of your own beliefs and research with gentle clarity without causing distress and offence. What are you going to do if your own children make a decision you disagree with? Helen
