This antiseptic stained circumstraint is currently in use in a large U.S. hospital and looks very typical of those used daily. The photograph was taken by a nurse and advocate with Saving Our Sons. This morning, as you gaze upon its image, there will be 5-6 baby boys strapped to it as their penis is cut apart for no medical reason. Every day it is the same - sealing the tragic fate of another handful of perfect, newborn babies who were born the previous day.
Between uses, it is stored in the nursery closet - far out of the sight of new parents. 'Nurse SOS' writes:
Parents don't see this sickening thing and I wish they could - it is like something out of a horror movie. Parents are told that the babies barely notice and sometimes don't cry at all - this is an absolute blatant lie. They are also told that pain relief will be provided, but are never informed that all the 'pain relief' babies receive is an infant's Tylenol and a pacifier dipped in sugar water.
An hour before circumcision, babies are denied any breastfeeding (or formula) so they do not vomit and choke when they scream. So sometimes they are already crying and upset before they are taken to be cut because they are so hungry. Babies are returned to their parents when they have passed out and they will not wake up to eat for many hours after circumcision. When they do wake, they are immensely hungry and in terrible pain.
I could go on and on... It is the worst part of my job as a pediatric nurse by far. And it happens every single morning.

ReplyDeleteThat nurse's statement is HORRIBLY sad. No way in the world I could do it. I would never be a part of anything having to do with that. IDC if it meant losing my job.

ReplyDeleteWhether you do or don't agree with this. As a healthcare professional, I want to point out that the stains you see are from betadine that is used to prep the area to prevent infection. These are definitely not blood stains as portrayed.

DeleteIt is not possible to disagree with a personal story. This is a factual story of what this nurse experienced while performing these amputations. As for you healthcare professional, I hold you personally responsible for my sons loss of a healthy, functional and important part of his body. My precious baby suffered unnecessarily at your hands. It is time for you to recommit to your oath, stop defending this torture and start informing parents that this procedure is purely cosmetic, extremely painful and should not be done.

ReplyDeleteI wish I wouldn't have done it. Research shows more than half of all boys by the time he tunrs 16 will not be circumsised. THey didn't do a good job either. :(

ReplyDeleteIt is so engrained in my community and family culture that people think it's crazy to think not circumsizing is an option! People are so brainwashed. My child's father convinced me that my son would be circumsizing after he was born. I hated myself for going against my gut and allowing it. I am releasing the guilt over a year later but it still.makes me want to vomit and cry to know what happened to my son :'(
ReplyDeleteHey it's far better than the entering of manhood for an African, about 12 years old and up they take you far away into the bush and chop you're foreskin off with a rock and leave you there until your ready to come back... Only now you are a man !

DeleteHow about instead of "wanting to kill everyone that cuts" you say "I want to educate" because like anonymous poster above me, I was unaware and uneducated about the facts and husband stated "we are circumsizing" and I didn't argue it. And it's the one thing I regret as a mom and I wish I could take it back. But no one that I knew had ever told me anything about not circumsizing
ReplyDeleteIt's not 'better' misinformed people are the cause for so many problems. An infant cannot convey how it really was, which is the only reason it is still allowed.

ReplyDeleteHave you witnessed infant circumcision? It is not only as horrible as it sounds, but moreso. It would be impossible to witness without recognizing it for what it is - sexual assault of a helpless baby.
